DRILL HALL
Built in 1904 on the ruins of a “native prison,” the Drill Hall presents a fascinating story within Johannesburg's and the country's contradictory social, military and political shifts. Always a base for military forces, it housed the infamous Treason Trial in 1956. It witnessed the dramatic changes of post apartheid Johannesburg, burned down in 2001 and has been rebuilt as a multi-use heritage site, shared by national reserve forces, social organisations and the JPP.
